A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by David Doiashvili the artistic director of Tbilisi Music and Drama State Theatre is a completely new vision of William Shakespeare’s remarkable work. No other version of “A Midsummer Night’s dream” reveals so many connections between the mystical characters of the play and so many obviously hidden ideas of the greatest play writer of all times.
The Story begins when Shakespeare’ s young heroine Hermia vows to escape her father’s mandate of marriage and runs away with her lover, Lysander, to an enchanted forest. Once in the forest these lovers find themselves in the middle of a fairy feud where they learn that “the course of true lover never did run smooth”. In the meantime, an unlikely cast of actors, the Mechanicals, are rehearsing a play, Pyramus and Thisbe, to be performed at Duke’s wedding. While the Mechanicals are rehearsing, Puck transforms the pompous actor, Bottom, turning his head into that of a donkey. When the fairy queen, Titania, falls instantly in love with him, comedy and mayhem ensue.
The actors, set, light design, video installation team and wonderful music of Chopin create a whimsical and dreamlike atmosphere mixed with a horrifying nightmare which deeply impresses audiences of all nationalities and beliefs all over the world.
